RR10 League Race 8 – University Playing Fields, Wide Lane

Hosted by Itchen Spitfires Running Club & Hamwic Harriers

Welcome to Race 8 of the 2024 season at University Playing Fields, Wide Lane, Eastleigh on

Wednesday 24th July, hosted by Itchen Spitfires Running Club and Hamwic Harriers.

The race will start promptly at 19:30.

The race start/finish area will be from within the University Playing Fields at Wide Lane, Eastleigh,

SO50 5PE. Please take notice of the parking information below.

The course is approximately 7.5km (4.67mi) consisting of 1 lap of the first small field, then heading

through the underpass for 2 laps around the perimeter of the playing fields/large lap, before coming

back through the underpass and completing 1 further small lap to the finish. The route is very flat,

predominantly on grass with some small sections on gravel.

For those who have ran this route before, there are some very minor tweaks this year due to the site

having new fences, gates and artificial pitches. There will be plenty of marshals on the route.

Parking

Parking is available within the University Playing Fields car park and at Lakeside Country Park (SO50

5PE). Please use both parking locations so that we can manage the volume of cars expected. And

please park considerately and car share where possible.

Lakeside Country Park parking restrictions are suspended from 18:00. Lakeside Country Park is just a

short walk to the University Playing Fields. Alternatively, use public transport, cycle or walk / jog to

the venue.

We do not have sole use of the University Playing Fields site on the evening and parking is not

allowed in the tarmac car park – we have a dedicated parking area on the grass. Enter through the

barriered car park and follow marshal directions onto the grass parking area. The parking access

crosses parts of the course, so please note that there will be no exit possible from the car park until

approximately 20:15 when runners have cleared this section. We would ask anyone wanting to leave

earlier than this to park in Lakeside Country Park. Upon exit, the barrier should be raised to avoid

queuing. However, if the barrier is lowered, please ensure you approach close to the barrier to

trigger the sensor.

Upon leaving Lakeside Country Park and the University Playing Fields at the end of the evening,

please turn left to avoid queuing traffic.

Toilets

There will be toilets available at both the main University Playing Fields sports pavilion, and at the

start/finish area. Please do not ‘go’ where you are not supposed to go!

Refreshments

Please bring your own water and bottles. We will have limited additional water to re-fill bottles.

There is no drinking water tap at the start/finish area. As always, cakes will be available to runners at

the finish!

Lastly, have a great race!
