New DBS system live & changes in response to the Government DBS updates

England Athletics will now use First Advantage to manage DBS checks, with updated processes designed to strengthen safeguarding for children and adults at risk. This means that anyone aged 16+ in eligible roles who has regular contact with children or adults at risk, or supervises overnight activities, will need an Enhanced DBS check renewed every three years. This includes many club volunteers, committee members, coaches, officials and welfare officers.

DBS identity checks will now be completed either through a digital verification process or at a participating Post Office branch.
Licensed coaches, officials, run leaders, guide runners and club welfare officers will apply through the myAthletics Portal, with DBS costs covered by England Athletics for these volunteer roles.
Licensed Leaders in Running Fitness and Guide Runners who work only with adults will no longer need a DBS check and will instead complete a self-declaration through the myAthletics Portal.

Clubs are encouraged to review volunteer roles, update recruitment processes and ensure volunteers understand the new requirements. Adult-only clubs generally do not require DBS checks for non-licensed volunteers. Read more here
