European success for Vic Novell

Vic Novell claimed a superb bronze medal in the 60m at the recent European Masters Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland, competing in the M80 category. This latest success adds to an outstanding medal collection that began with his first international honour a decade ago in 2016.
Still going strong at 81 years of age and motivated as ever to compete at the highest level possible, Vic is now signing off from Southampton AC as he relocates to be closer to family.
Vic’s journey with the club began in 1996 when he joined Team Solent. He experienced two mergers during his time, the most recent in 2010, which formed the present-day Southampton AC with Vic serving as our first chair.
Since our inaugural appearance in the SCVAC Vets Track & Field League in 2010, Vic has been ever-present, contributing tirelessly in sprints and relays, while also stepping up to score valuable points in non‑specialist events such as the 400m, long jump and shot put.
Along the way, Vic consistently broke club age‑group records year after year and amassed an extraordinary competitive record, including 36 British Masters titles and 10 European Masters medals.
His career highlights came in 2016 when he won individual bronze in the 100m and also a member of the victorious GB Masters 4x200 relay team that won Gold at the World Masters Championships.
As Vic begins the next chapter of his life, we say farewell with immense gratitude and best wishes—and encourage him to keep doing what he does best.
