Committee meeting, January 2018 – a brief overview

We formally welcomed our new committee members Andy Palmer, Elizabeth Pugh, Jon Tilt, Becky Mulley, Ashley Cooper and James Mann.  We all introduced ourselves and our role within the club and committee.

  • Becky Mulley will be looking at our website and social media platforms.
  • James Mann will be working on a club sponsor and investigating fundraising options.
  • Andy Palmer and Dr Elizabeth Pugh are the club’s new welfare officers.
  • David Blackman will be reviewing our Netley 10k race with a view to exploring a second club race.  He will also be looking in to the cost of Electronic timing and EDM machines.
  • Ashley Cooper is our new Club Treasurer.

We had the usual reports from the Chairman, Treasurer and Membership secretary.  Club membership is stable with over 600 members with a number of athletes joining us from Eastleigh running club in recent months.  Tracey Jones (acting Treasurer) gave us an overview of the clubs finances with a forecast for the year.   Again, there could be increased expenditure on travel as we have a UKWAL away match in Edinburgh.  The committee will be reviewing our expense policy and this will be republished on the club website.

We recognised some of the great athletic achievements of recent months, notably the club success at the Hampshire cross country championships where we had 40 medalists across all age groups.  Other notable performances were Amaya Scott who set a pb and Southern CBP of 1.80 m in the high jump and Jen Elkins who set a course record in winning the Stubbington 10k.  Congratulations also to Mahamed Mahamed and Alex Teuten who earned their second Senior, GB vests.

Diane Reavey (Club secretary) gave us the latest update on the new pavilion project which will replace our current portable cabins.  Planning permission has been agreed but Building Control approval has additional conditions attached which means we need to get revised quotations.

Mark West spoke about the new agreement with Active Nation in relation to track use for the club.  The committee have managed to negotiate a new “all encompassing” deal which incorporates track use, academy use and meeting hire.  This should save the club a significant amount of money whilst not sacrificing track use for our members.  Mark is also exploring whether our club kit should be sold on line.

Our “open meeting” team have been busy organising and finalising dates for 2018. These will be published very soon but will be three week day meetings and a weekend meeting in September.  They will also incorporate Quad kid competitions.

The committee discussed the date for our awards evening which is likely to be Friday 23 March.  We are hoping for our usual venue in Netley.

Committee members present were Richie Pearson, Mark West, Diane Reavey, Mike Coker, Becky Mulley, Ashley Cooper, Fiona Webb, Jon Tilt, Nicci Blandford, Dawn Thatcher, Tracey Jones, Chris Thompson, Tim Hall, Dr Elizabeth Pugh, Andy Palmer.

Our next committee meeting is on Monday 12 March.
