Rob served in the military for 25 years until he was medically discharged with depression and PTSD in 2016. In the past Rob has run some of the toughest, highest and coldest foot races in the world.
In August 2020 Rob had a major accident, breaking his neck and back. His determination and attitude developed from coping with mental illness saw him back running in two months, albeit only a few painful steps at first. Rob tries to help others learn from his experience, recently featuring in Help for Heroes Suicide Awareness training.
In February 2025 Rob was selected to compete for the United Kingdom at the Invictus Games hosted in Vancouver Canada, his first Invictus Hybrid Winter Games. He chose two sports that he felt would be more demanding, namely Nordic Skiing and Indoor Rowing. He wasn’t wrong….
Rob is a mental health advocate presenting across organisations from government departments to corporate banks and charities. He was recognised for his work doing this by taking parting in The Queen’s Commonwealth Baton Relay through Southampton in 2022. As well as running for the club, Rob is a Mental Health Champion, guiding a monthly #RunAndTalk.
