When the Mayor came to visit
We had our last Track and Field fixture at Southampton on Saturday 11th September, later than normal but no less exciting. We finished a sold second in this match with Josh Douglas crowned man of the match.
Overall in the SAL we finished 31st (out of 96 teams) with our best match score of 304 gained in round three at Winchester, where two of our throwers Christopher Scott and Olivia Austin were crowned male and female athlete of the match. The scoring system used for this year was based on athlete performance and the overall league position was the best match score.
We also had some VIP guests visiting us. The Mayor and Sheriff of Southampton, you may have noticed them as they walked around the track. Our Club President Mary Axtell did an excellent job as their host for the day. Thanks also goes to Noel ODowd for arranging the visit.
I think it is fair to say that they were both suitably impressed with the athletes and the support of all the volunteers that make these events happen.
I personally think that our home fixtures are the best but then I am biased.
The Mayor found time to talk with some of our younger athletes who told him about the academy and the event level coaching that they are enjoying.
