SAC Awards Night 2018

Last Friday, we celebrated the achievements of the club at its annual awards night. Held at Victoria House in Netley, it was another great opportunity to embrace the many and varied achievements of our wonderful club. Hosted by Andy Fisher and Jon Tilt, the evening culminated in a new President’s Award won by Fiona Webb, Senior Membership Secretary for her long and continued service to the club. Not only has Fiona been a committee member for over 10 years, she has been a trustee, official (track judge, field judge and scorer and has officiated for the County), amongst a host of other things. There could not have been a more deserving winner. We also embraced the services of our other volunteers and committee members and we thank them for their continued support. Performances on the road, cross country, track and field were in abundance and a full list of award winners can be found here. The awards were presented and celebrated by two of our three GB International athletes. Mahamed Mahamed and Alex Teuten were not only awarded with life membership of the club but a framed photograph of their first GB vest. Dave Henson, our Paralympian could not be present but receives the same accolade. 2017 was undoubtedly one of the Club’s best years ever, both in team events and through individual performances including the achievement of GB honours at senior, junior and youth level in the same year. The evening was enhanced with a raffle which raised over £600 for the club. Prizes were donated by local companies and included a tour and lunch on a P&O cruise ship and breakfast at Upton’s of Bassett. A full list of our donated prizes can be seen below and we thank the companies for their generosity. Food, music and dancing ended a great evening with DJ Tony (Fern) in the house, playing tunes till the early hours (well until 11.30). A great night was had by all and we hope to see more of you there next year. For those of you who won awards and were unable to attend, the awards will be available for collection at the track from Thursday 29 March. Thank you to the following people who made the awards evening possible; Tim Hall, Richie Pearson, Jon Tilt, Mark West, Mary Axtell, Andy Fisher, Dawn Thatcher, Fiona Webb, Tony Fern, Rene Fern, Peter Merritt, Mahamed Mahamed, Alex Teuten, Andy Palmer, Nicci Blandford, Mark Gallant.
