Josh Douglas takes English schools title
In a remarkable rise to sucess, 14 year old Josh Douglas took the junior boys discus title at the English schools championships in Gateshead yesterday. Josh threw the discus competitively for the first time in April and in an extraordinary coaching achievment by Bill Bushnell has won an english schools title just 3 months later. Josh threw 40.94m to take the title.
Elsewhere in Gateshead, in the intermediate (U17) boys age group, Reiss Jarvis made it through to today's 400m final as a fastest loser after finishing 3rd in his heat but Lyndon Olowe just missed out. Ben Upfold was 9th in the discus.
For the junior (U15) boys, James Jerram made it through to today's 800m final as a fastest loser in a blanket finish by finishing 4th in the first heat with 5 boys finishing in a line. No senior (U20) boys took part yesterday and will be in action today.
For the senior girls, Izzy Bryant made it through to today's 100m final by finishing 2nd in her heat but Amy Teal missed out after coming 7th in her heat.
In the intermediate girls, Ellie Hodgson qualified for the 100m semi-finals after finishing 2nd in her heat but just missed out on today's final as a fastest loser after finishing 5th in the semi-final. Emma Froome made it through qualifying into the shot putt final in a big field of entries and finished 11th in the final.
For the junior girls, Issy Richardson was 9th in her heat of the 1500m.
