Sophie takes gold and Oli narrowly misses sprint double
On the 2nd day of action at the national age group indoor championships in Sheffield, Sophie Meritt took the U20 womens shot putt title.In a fabulous battle with England rival Divine Aladipo, Sophie took the lead after round 1 with 13.22m only to see Divine snatch it back in round 2 with a putt of 13.46m. Sophie then hurled the shot 13.76m in round 3, a distance she repeated in the final round of throws in round 6 to take the title.
Oli Bromby narrowly missed the 60m/200m sprint double by finishing 2nd behind GB teammate Toby Harries in the U20 mens 200m. Oli ran a blistering 21.36 secs for a huge indoor personal best and also moved to 7th in the junior world 200m indoor rankings to go alongside his 5th place ranking in the indoor 60m.
Elsewhere in Sheffield, Ryan Coles finished 4th in his 200m heat with an indoor pb of 22.91 secs.
