Mo & Zak win opening round of British Athletics cross challenge series

On a fantastic day for the club, the Pete Haynes trained Mo & Zak both won their respective age group races in he first round of the British Athletics cross challenge series at Tear Drop lakes in Milton Keynes yesterday.The challenge series comprises of 5 races around the UK and effectively acts as the British championships culminating in the last race in Birmingham which which is also the UK inter-counties championships. Mo put himself firmly in the picture for GB selection in the junior mens team for the euopean cross country championships in Hyeres, France on the 13th December with a win in the junior mens (U20) race from Youth Olympics triathlon gold medalist Ben Dijkstra.  Despite a slip on the final corner which seemed to destroy his chances, Mo powered home to win by a second. Zak made it a family double by beating his perennial rival Laclan Wellington from City of Portsmouth AC by 4 secs in the U15 boys race with the duo an amazing 43 secs clear of the rest of the field. The next race of the challenge series takes place in Liverpool on the 28th November which also acts as the trial for the Euopean cross country championships with the first five home in the junior mens race guarenteed selection for the British team.
