Mo smashes field to win National title.
Mo Mahamed continues to improve with every race and absolutely obliterated the best athletes in the country by taking the English national U17 mens cross country title at a muddy Parliament Hill today.With proud coach Pete Haynes looking on Mo won by an incredible 300m finishing the 6k course in 20 mins exactly 48 seconds ahead of his rivals. In the same age group, Luke Powell was 45th and Sam Costley 71st.
Brother Zak so nearly made it a family double by taking the runners up spot in the U15 boys age group. Zak finished the 4.5K course in a smidgen under 16 mins 11 seconds behind winner George Groom from Shaftesbury Barnet. Zak will be back to race in this age group next year and will surely start the favorite. In the same age group, Max Satterly was 75th.
The Senior men took a large and strong team who ran over a punishing 12k in the last race of the day. The team finished 16th in the 9 to count team race and 23rd in the 6 to count race. Ever improving Jamie Knapp was the first man home in an impressive 60th place, Matthew Revier was next in 95th followed by Matthew Bennett in 104th, Matt Emery was 317th, Matt Hibberd 374th, James Smith 385th, Tim Sherman 436th, Max Costley 464th and Rich Waldron completed the scorers in 569th. In addition, Emyr Morgan was 654th, Jim Bennett 744th, Stuart Hicks 759th, Malcolm Riddle 940th, Dave Blackman 984th, Nick Willson 1082nd, Paul Johnson 1303rd, John Macinnes 1342nd, Howard Long 1373rd, Keith Hollis 1610th and Pete Staunton 1814th with over 2000 men finishing the race.
For the Senior women Nicci Blandford was 175th, Zoe West was 198th and Hannah Coombes was 288th.
There were no junior women competing but the junior men had a full team who came an impressive 7th. Steven Simpson led the way in 29th, Abdi Mahamed was 52nd, Tom Cully was 160th and Alex Prinsep was 179th.
The U17 women were 14th on the day. Hannah Polden was the leading women in 116th followed by Anna reavey in 129th, Alana Spiers in 131st and Briallen Taylor in 224th.
The U15 girls were 34th led by Holly Powell who was 148th, Maya Gill was next in 244th, Isabelle Bennett was 254th and Grace Reavey completed the scorers in 255th with Eleanor Prinsep coming home 323rd.
The U13 girls were perhaps the best team on the day with 37 teams behind them as they finished 12th. Izzy Richardson ran her usual fine race coming home 31st, Madeline Cooper ran an amazing race to record a top 100 finish with another 2 years left in the age group in 98th, Elizabeth Adamson was 129th and Poppy Wright completed the scorers in 154th. Olivia Reavey was 319th.
Finally the U13 boys had 2 competitors of which Ben Williams was the best finisher in 177th and Toby Hale was 254th.
