Mo smashes club record at Inter-counties match

Southampton AC's young athletes put in some fine performances representing their county schools team at the South East England inter-counties match in Crawley on Saturday. There were so many Southampton athletes on display I won't detail them all as you can see them on the results but some performances are worthy of special mention.  Top of that list is Mo Mahamed's 1500m in a blistering 4 mins 01 secs.  I had the privilege of watching the race and the kick Mo put in at the bell was awesome.  This smashes the club record puts him in the UK top ten and maybe he can go under the 4 min mark before the end of the season which is amazing running at U17. Joe Wales also achieved a personal milestone of going under 2 mins for the 800m, Izzy Bryant putted over 10m for the first time in the shot, and Rudy Cemal ran a pb in the 100m.  Izzy, Amy Teal & Katya Oldfield were three quarters of the 4 x 100m team who now stand proudly at the top of the U17 UK rankings with a supersonic 49 secs flat. Sam Wellington putted a pb in the shot, likewise Eddie Jenkinson threw a pb in the discus to go 3rd on the clubs U17 all time list and Owen Lawrence broke the 14 second barrier for the first time to go 2nd in the clubs 100mH U17 list. Sam Bridges ran a 200m pb, Luke Powell did the same at 1500m.  Zak Mahamed also ran a pb at 1500m going under 4 mins 35 and Kieran Apps vaulted to a new pb.  In Yeovil at the South West of England schools inter-counties match, Sophie Merritt was 1st in the discus and 2nd in the shot.
