Freya gets Commonwealth Games call up

We are delighted that Southampton AC's Freya Jones has been selected to throw the Javelin as part of the England athletics squad for next month’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Freya who is currently studying at the University of Georgia has been a member of our club for many years and has been competing successfully in the Javelin throughout that time. She has made steady improvements in the distances she has thrown, and has a string of titles in various national and international competitions including English schools and Hampshire Championships. Most recently Freya won the National Collegiate title in Oregon, USA, last summer with a throw of 54.95 - a new personal best. However in April this year she improved her PB yet again to 55.36, sealing her ticket to Scotland with a qualifying standard throw. Freya and family are thrilled with the selection and we wish her every success at the games that start in July.
