Thoughts of Chairman Pearson
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and are ready for a really exciting year for our club.
On the track our objectives as always are the British Athletic League(2nd Division) and UK Women's League (Premier Division) I can't help but smile when I write the word Premier Division as it was such a fantastic achievement last year to achieve promotion to the top league in UK Athletics. Our aim this year must be to maintain our status in the UKWL and I believe promotion is a real possibility in the BAL.Can I ask all athletes to support your team managers as I know from my own experience being a team manager can be a pretty sole destroying job at times. The dates for all the fixtures are known so please make yourselves available. I think one of our better decisions in recent years was to join the Southern Athletic League which has proved really popular with athletes and I hope our unblemished record can continue.
We are in the process of planning a series of four open meetings on a Wednesday night during the summer months full details will be available soon.
I hope everyone thinks that the new web site is a step forward. The main advantage is that we now have a team of members who can put on content without going through a web master. The result should be far more current results etc but you may have to put up with my ramblings.
Congratulations to Alex Wall Clarke for winning the Stubbington 10K I know Tony thinks he will better his track times in the summer and I am sure he is right. The 12/6 stage road relay was off and now it is on at Milton Keynes 16th March so guys please let me know your availability and ladies let Nicci B know likewise. This is a top competition and we need our strongest teams.
The club house continues to frustrate and progress is very slow but we have a small committee who are spending a lot of time and effort in making the club house a reality. We continue to talk to Active Nation, the City Council, and England Athletics.
I am very much aware that we need a commercial sponsor so that we can increase the support we give to our fantastic athletes. Is there anyone in the club or outside the club who has expertise in fund raising or obtaining sponsorship agreements ?. I would love to talk to you.Which brings me on to volunteers, we already have some incredible people who volunteer, maybe as junior coaches, officials, helping run the porta cabin etc but we need more so if you can help or perhaps more likely know of someone who could help out, let Alison know.
The awards presentation evening is fixed for the 21st of March.location to be confirmed. This year you have the opportunity to vote for the Male and Female Athletes' Athlete you will receive an E Mail telling you the criteria and how you can register your vote. Please Vote Vote Vote.
Hope everyone who is fit stays fit and everyone else who are not fit gets fit
